Russian Federation is the largest country in the world. Its total area is about 17 million square kilometers. It is situated both in Europe and Asia.
The country is washed by 12 seas and 3 oceans: the Pacific, the Arctic and the Atlantic. Russia borders on many countries. They are, for example, Estonia, Latvia, Finland, Poland, China, Belarus, the Ukraine. It also has a sea border with the USA.
The population of Russia is 145.5 million people. 83 per cent are Russians. 70 per cent of the population live in cities.
Moscow is the capital of our country. It was founded in 1147. It is a wonderful city. Moscow is the cultural center. You can see many museums, art galleries, theatres, churches and monuments in our capital. People of our country are proud of the Moscow Kremlin.
There are different types of climate in the regions of Russia. E.g. it is very cold in Yakutia even in summer. And e.g. in Krasnodar Region summers are really hot.
There are a lot of mountains in Russia. The Urals are the oldest ones. They separate Europe from Asia.
There are many rivers in Russia. The longest rivers are the Volga in Europe and the Yenisei and the Ob in Asia.
Besides, Russia has many beautiful lakes. The deepest lakes are the Baikal and the Ladoga.
Russian Federation is very rich in mineral resources such as oil, natural gas, coal, iron, gold and diamonds.
The Russian Federation is a Presidential Republic Today the flag of Russia is a three-coloured banner. The hymn of Russia is written by A. Alexandrov. A national emblem is a two-headed eagle, the most ancient symbol of Russia.
